Adopt a restored slab from the palatine chapel in the palais du tau!
Presentation
Since the launch of the fund-raising campaign in September 2024 for the restoration of the Palatine Chapel in the Palais du Tau, a large number of sponsors have pledged their support for this emblematic project for Reims' heritage.
Today, the project has reached a decisive stage: the floor tiles of the chapel have been removed for restoration. They will soon be reinstalled, and each one will now be able to bear the dedication of its patron.
This initiative is part of the drive to restore the Palais du Tau by the Centre des Monuments Nationaux from 2022. In addition to the restoration of the monument, there is an ambitious scenographic project designed to give visitors a completely new experience.
Take part in the rebirth of the chapel: adopt a slab!
Restoring the floor of the upper chapel is a key stage in the project. It involves removing the existing mortar, restoring the marble paving andoccasionally replacing the most damaged stones, in keeping with the original materials. Certain varieties of marble, which have become rare, will be given special attention to preserve their authenticity.
As part of this, a unique sponsorship initiative has been launched for the general public and patrons alike: anyone can contribute to the restoration by "adopting" a paving stone from the chapel.
The paving is scheduled to be replaced by mid-July 2026.
Become a patron, write your name in history
- You can choose your paving stone online, on the Fondation du patrimoine website.
- You have until mid-July to make your commitment, but don't delay - there are only 252 slabs to be adopted, not one more!
- Your name will be inserted into the time capsule buried beneath the floor of the chapel. We'll have to wait for further work, in a few decades or centuries' time, before the capsule is discovered and, who knows, your rediscovered name will be the pride of your descendants.
Each slab corresponds to a level of donation:
- 204 central slabs in white Carrara marble: €50
- 34 slabs with fleur-de-lys motifs surrounding the central carpet: €200
- 13 slabs with fleur-de-lys motifs marking the entrance to the choir: €1,000
- 2 flagstones with floral motifs at the entrance to the chapel: €3,000
- 1 "Salve" plaque of honour at the entrance to the chapel: €5,000
